Our guest today is just as much of a singular and influential artist as the featured album. Thalia Zedek has a lot to share at the moment. Her first solo release is getting the full treatment for it's 20th anniversary. Been Here and Gone is being reissued by Thrill Jockey Records on vinyl for the first time and in limited edition gold vinyl too! Get that here: https://thaliazedek.bandcamp.com/album/been-here-and-gone-20th-anniversary-reissue Also the Thalia Zedek Band has a new record coming out. Perfect Vision is available for pre-order now here: https://thaliazedek.bandcamp.com/album/perfect-vision And something I don't have a link for that Thalia shared with me is that Come will have a 45 of Gun Club covers available through Chunklet Industries in early June, as well as some Come reissues coming out on Fire Records in October. V&V Episode 046 Eric Smith(Sweet Dreams, Glowing Cloud) & Neil Young's Trans
Eric Smith is a local Providence musician that has been working with great projects for almost 20 years now. His latest project, Glowing Cloud, is no exception. He's just released a 3 song EP which is reminiscent of jangly, Brit pop with a Neil Young flare. I was happy to have Eric here at the house to discuss and listen to Neil Young's Trans on vinyl. If you like this album or any album by Neil Young, there's a good chance you'll like Glowing Cloud. V&V Episode 045 Weasel Walter and Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
I'm very excited today to bring to you, Weasel Walter! I may have felt a little nervous going into this conversation because of what I knew of Weasel's intense thirst for musical knowledge and historical research of music that he loves. Turns out, I did alright, and the musical ideas and opinions oozed pretty simply. I really enjoyed this talk and getting to know Weasel and Mayhem a lot better. I hope you feel the same. If you might only know one or two the band Weasel's been part of please check out his Bandcamp and website for WAY more! https://weaselwalter.bandcamp.com/ http://nowave.pair.com/weasel_walter/ Follow him on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/weasel_walter/ and find out more about us and ways to support the podcast by visiting www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut.
V&V Episode 044 Dan Boucher(Neptune, Le Feeling) & The Ex+Tom Cora's Scrabbling at the Lock
Dan is a talented multi-instrumentalist and head of the Wrong Whole Archival Bureau, which is putting out some great experimental, noise music. It was a pleasure getting to know him as well as the album he chose this evening, The Ex + Tom Cora's Scrabbling at the Lock. There might not be many parallels to this album and the band Dan had been apart of (Neptune) but between the many different projects and releases he's putting out, I think there are many. I encourage you to check out Wrong Whole's entire catalog and experiment with something new today. https://wrongwhole.bandcamp.com/ Remember, this is a concentrated version of the entire conversation. If you'd like to hear the music from the album as well as the rest of the interview, you can find it at https://www.psychicstatic.net/podcasts and if you'd like to support the show please consider making any type of purchase from our website. V&V Episode 043 Brandon Perras-Sanchez(Death Drop Gorgeous) & Sonic Youth's Experimental Jet Set
What an interesting conversation to have with a talented filmmaker and musician, Brandon Perras-Sanchez. Finally an opportunity to ask the question, "Does the influence of an album have the same effect on a film maker as a music maker?" And I was delightfully surprised by the answer Brandon gave. In addition, we touched upon many subjects including but no limited to Sonic Youth's Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star, the new feature film he's working on, Saint Drogo, and what it was like releasing a film during a pandemic. Find the full conversation wherever you find your podcasts. V&V Episode 042 Rafay Rashid(Ravi Shavi, Rodney Dangerous) & Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam
There are few musicians that keep busy, have ridiculous discographies, or command a stage. My guest today, Rafay Rashid, does them all. Super nice guy and great conversationalist to boot! We discuss influential music, making music in the desert, and why The Beatles may just be one of the most overrated bands in history! Dig in kids. Please find and buy Rodney Dangerous' new double album "Fantasies" here: https://almostreadyrecords.bandcamp.com/album/fantasies or Ravi Shavi's new album "Special Hazards" here: https://ravishavi.bandcamp.com/ This video is only a portion of the conversation. V&V Episode 041 Ashish "Hash" Vyas(Thievery Corporation, Gnarnia) and The Pop Group's Y
It should come as no surprise that The Pop Group's 1979 debut album "Y", being an amalgam of punk funk, jazz fusions, and avant noise, would speak so syseynchtly to the heart of this episode's guest, "Hash" Vyas. Most notably being the bass player for Thievery Corporation and GoGoGo Airheart, Hash has been a huge fan of all types of music for all his life, but let's be serious, that shit's gotta have some bass! And this album has got it in spades. I went on location for this one to Hash's residence to speak about this album, share my upright bass(which Hash did a little bit of noodling on at the end), and talk a little about his latest project, Gnarnia. Great talk and great hang. V&V Episode 040 Damian Puerini(Song Birds, Tall Teenagers, Revival Preachers) and The Kinks' Arthur
Damian Puerini joins me once again to explore the deceivingly dark and dismal social commentary of The Kinks' rock opera, Arthur(or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)! See how even the title sheds no glimmer of hope? It's a fantastic album with a very knowledgeable guest. We get after it. Join us. Check out a solo composition of Damian's on a fantastic charity album here: https://toothhurtyproductions666.bandcamp.com/album/a-hopeful-home-for-all Or check out any of his bands here: https://charlieblye.bandcamp.com/ https://songbirdspvd.bandcamp.com/ https://tallteenagers.bandcamp.com/ https://therevivalpreachers.bandcamp.com and as always, find out more and support us by buying some Merch or a record at our website www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut.
V&V Episode 039 J Ryan(Six Finger Satellite) and Suicide The Album
Just when you might have thought Six Finger Satellite was dead, the budding noise rock inspirators of the 90's are coming up with some killer reissues and committing some never before heard jams to wax too! I got to speak with front man J Ryan about some of these plans as well as one of the most influential records on his life, Suicide's self titled 1977 debut. Dig it!
